From the street, Tii Cup looks like your everyday boba tea shop. Nothing particularly unusual. But tucked away behind a nondescript side door is a staircase that immediately hints you're headed somewhere special. Climb to the second floor, open another door, and suddenly you've stepped into L2, a beautiful little tea garden meets speakeasy.
And what a lovely surprise it is.
The space is gorgeous. Warm, intimate, thoughtfully designed, and just the right amount of whimsical. It's the kind of place that makes you want to settle in for another round before you've even finished your first.
We ordered some food, which was perfectly tasty bar fare. Nothing I'd write home about, but enjoyable enough. The real stars here, though, are the cocktails.
mmmmm.... those cocktails.
The standout was a pho-inspired cocktail served in an actual bowl, complete with a little spoon and fresh herbs. Savory, sour, aromatic, and packed with that beautiful umami depth that makes you stop mid-sip and reconsider what a cocktail can be. It was decadent without being heavy, playful without being gimmicky, and genuinely unlike almost anything I've had.
The closest comparison I can think of is a fish sauce cocktail I once had at Kingfisher on the West Coast, but L2's creation stands wonderfully on its own. There's something delightfully ridiculous about sitting in a beautiful cocktail bar sipping a drink from a soup bowl. And when it tastes this good? I'm all in.
The rest of the cocktail menu didn't disappoint either. Boba-inspired creations, refreshing spritzes, and inventive flavor combinations all delivered. Everything we tried was superb.
Now, I do have a confession. I'm generally not a fan of pre-batched cocktails. I like watching a bartender build a drink, balancing ingredients and making something fresh to order. And L2's drinks were pre-mixed.
Normally, I'd have something to say about that.
But here? Somehow, it worked. Maybe it's because L2 isn't trying to be some overly serious temple of mixology. It's a playful, beautifully designed boba tea speakeasy doing its own thing, and doing it remarkably well. The drinks were delicious, the concept made sense, and for once, I was happy to leave my pre-batching complaints downstairs.
It was fairly quiet when we arrived, but by the time we left, a nice little crowd had started to gather. My nights tend to end earlier these days, so I was glad to see the place coming alive before I headed out.
I hope that crowd keeps growing, because L2 deserves it.
Whether you're looking for a fun date night, a beautiful spot to catch up with friends, or just an excuse to drink something delicious and a little unexpected, this hidden pearl is absolutely worth discovering.
Highly recommended.
